What is the Faculty Council?

What is the SSC Faculty Council?

The Faculty Council was created to amplify faculty voices in matters of our professional expertise. Faculty representatives from across campus will come together to facilitate communication between faculty across divisions and between faculty and the different groups involved in campus governance.

The mission of the Faculty Council was created by Faculty in 2019:

We, the Faculty of South Seattle College, are committed to furthering knowledge and enhancing learning within our community. The interests of students, scholarship, and the campus are best served when we, the Faculty, practice cooperative, transparent, and informed participation campus wide conversations. Therefore, we establish the South Seattle College Faculty Council to facilitate effective faculty participation, broaden communication in matters of faculty concern, and to engage the faculty voice in the guidance of the college’s mission, programs, and instruction.

Representatives to the Faculty Council will be a contact point for the faculty of an area of campus. They will solicit feedback, share information, and represent the opinions and interests of Faculty from that area at Faculty Council meetings. The Faculty Council will hold a quarterly All – Faculty meeting to facilitate discussion on issues raised by Faculty or campus groups seeking Faculty input. After these meetings Faculty will be able to vote on formal recommendations from the Faculty body to stakeholders involved in a given campus issue. The Faculty Council hopes to lower the barrier to engagement in campus conversations in order to elevate Faculty voices on campus.
