Gifts from the Earth is South Seattle College's signature, and only, fundraising event. The 2017 event will be held on campus in the Culinary Arts Building and Jerry M. Brockey Center on Saturday, January 28th.
Over 300 college supporters will come together at the college’s Culinary Arts Building to enjoy a special reception. Here we will feature wine tasting by South Seattle College's Northwest Wine Academy alumni winemakers and special gourmet bites prepared by South's Culinary Arts students under the direction of Chef Robert Houot. While sipping and snacking, guests can participate in the extensive silent auction that fills the college’s Cafeteria and Alki Restaurant, and venture into the Alhadeff Grill to preview the array of exciting live auction items.
At the close of the silent auction, guests meander the short distance to the Jerry M. Brockey Center, where a delectable dining experience awaits them. Each table will be under the care of one of our 16 esteemed Gifts from the Earth Guest Chefs, who prepares a five-course menu that they have designed especially for the event. Guests get to meet their chef before the meal begins, and hear about the special experience that awaits them. Each course is paired with Washington wines carefully chosen by the faculty of South's Northwest Wine Academy to enhance their chef’s menu.
The Gifts from the Earth program features emcee Jake Whittenberg, morning anchor on King 5 TV, a welcome from South Seattle College President Gary Oertli, and a featured scholarship recipient who will share their experience, goals, and gratitude with guests.
The Live Auction:
Helmed by auctioneer Mike Merrill of Stokes Auction Group, the Gifts from the Earth live auction will inspire all of us to bid on exotic trips and exciting getaways, unique experiences and luxurious meals, and wine-themed extravaganzas from our Northwest Wine Academy.
Fund-A-Dream, a highlight of the auction, gives guests the opportunity to hear a special word from our Gifts from the Earth student speaker, who will share the story of their educational journey. Proceeds benefit the South Seattle College Foundation as well as South’s Culinary, Wine and Hospitality Management Programs.
One unique aspect of Gifts from the Earth is the participation of our student volunteers. Students from the Culinary Arts program assist chefs in the kitchen and act as servers, Wine Program students volunteer as sommeliers, and students from South’s four-year Bachelor of Applied Science in Hospitality Management Program provide customer service in a number of roles. Additionally, South’s student government representatives, club members, and Foundation Scholarship recipients volunteer their time for this event.
Gifts from the Earth 2017 will be an unforgettable evening filled with good friends, great wine and food, and joyful giving to support the college and its students. Reserve your seat today and learn why so many of our guests come back year after year!
