Training Options | Contact Information

The Workforce Education Department provides financial assistance with tuition, fees, and one quarter of required textbooks for short-term professional and technical programs that lead directly to employment. We do not fund transfer degrees.

Educational Planning Workshop

Educational Planning Workshops are held in the Robert Smith Building (RSB) room 81 on designated Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Click the icon at right to sign up for an orientation session now.

Funding Sources

  • Worker Retraining
    All individuals who are currently receiving Washington state unemployment benefits, whose unemployment benefits have been exhausted within the last 24 months or who are facing the prospect of layoff, may be eligible for assistance with tuition, fees, and one quarter of required textbooks through the Worker Retraining Program. This program is provided through a partnership between South Seattle Community College and the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD).

  • Basic Food Employment and Training Program (BFET)
    The goal of the Basic Food Employment and Training Program is to help individuals receiving (SNAP) Basic Food Assistance find livable wage jobs by providing vocational and professional training opportunity through assistance with tuition, fees, and one quarter of required textbooks. This program is provided through a partnership between South Seattle Community College and the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).

  • WorkFirst (TANF)
    Workfirst is a program for parents who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and are pursuing short-term professional and technical training. A referral from your DSHS case manager is required before we can process your request for assistance with the cost of quarterly tuition, fees, and required textbooks. This program is provided through a partnership between South Seattle Community College and the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
