Four-Year Hospitality Degree OK’d
for South Seattle Community College
South Seattle Community College has received state approval to offer a four-year Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Hospitality Management.
Classes would begin in September 2007 to prepare graduates for management-level positions in the growing fields of hospitality management, including work in hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, and arts, entertainment and recreation venues. The program will also provide career development for hospitality industry employees seeking management-level skill development in one of Washington’s largest and fastest growing industries.
The program received approval from the State Board for Community Technical Colleges at its April meeting, and will now be reviewed by the State Higher Education Coordinating Board and the college’s accrediting agency, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
“This new four-year degree will offer place-bound students a pathway to a four-year college education with opportunities to attain management-level responsibilities and earn higher lifelong wages,” said college president Dr. Jill Wakefield in a news release. (PDF)
