Requirements

At the time of application, prospective students must have:

  1. An unencumbered LPN License in the State of Washington
  2. Completed the six prerequisite courses listed below:

Human Anatomy & Physiology

BIOL& 242

Human Anatomy & Physiology II

5 credits

BIOL& 260

Microbiology

5 credits

CHEM&121 Introduction to Chemistry 5 credits

PSYC& 200

Developmental Psychology

5 credits

ENGL& 101

English Composition

5 credits

MATH& 109

Elementary Statistics * (co-requisite)

5 credits

You can substitute higher Statistics classes for MATH&109, but we will no longer accept any other math classes except a statistics course for the math requirement.  To confirm if a class will meet Nursing Prerequisites requirements contact Transcript Evaluators at  206-934-5829.

*Students may apply before they have completed Statistics, but this course must be completed before students can graduate from the LPN program.

  • The minimum acceptable grade for any LPN Coursework or academic pre-requisite course is 2.5.
  • Starting Fall 2011 there will be a seven year time limit on Science Prerequisites: BIOL&241, 242, 260, and CHEM&121
  • Starting Fall 2011 PSYC&200, ENGL& 101, and MATH&109 will have a 10 year time limit. 
  • Students may enroll and take these courses at South (see Steps to Enroll)
  • OR
  • Provide proof of completion by submitting an official college transcript with your application.   
  • Adjunct English as a Second Language courses are available for many of the pre-requisites. Contact the ESL Transition Services Coordinator at 206-934-6747 for information.
