Due to student and patient safety concerns, a delay in program entry or interruption in program participation may be necessary to ascertain physical and mental health criteria that meet employers' expectations for practical nursing performance. These criteria include:
- Heavy lifting up to 70 pounds
- Heavy carrying, 45 pounds and over
- Straight pulling (3-4 hours/shift)
- Pushing (3-4 hours/shift)
- Reaching above shoulder (1 hour/shift)
- Use of fingers
- Both hands required or compensated by the use of acceptable prostheses
- Walking (8 hours)
- Standing (8 hours)
- Repeated squatting (3-4 hours/shift)
- Climbing, legs only (1-2 hours/shift)
- Both legs required (or compensated by the use of acceptable prostheses)
- Operation of medical equipment
- Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously
- Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger #2
- Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/40 and to 20/100 in the other
- Hearing (one aid permitted with ability to hear conversational voice 15 feet-one ear)
- Ability to process and respond to written instructions
- Ability to process and respond to a sequence of verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to accept constructive feedback concerning academic performance
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to maintain interpersonal professional relationships.
