The CAD/Design Technology program is designed to equip graduates with both drafting and basic design capabilities. Drafters translate the ideas and rough sketches of engineers and architects into technical drawings. The SSCC program enables graduates to embark on their careers in entry-level positions in the field of architectural, civil, electrical or mechanical drafting.
Graduates can find employment as designers/drafters at:
- Architectural and construction firms
- Mechanical equipment contractors
- Engineering contractors
- Aircraft design and manufacturing companies
- City and county engineering departments
- Public utilities, The Department of Transportation and a variety of other government agencies
A Technical Drafting certificate focuses on basic skills (manual and CAD) and fundamental principles. The program can be completed in three or four quarters. An AAS in Technical Drafting and Design involves a second year of study and is sought by major employers.
