Commercial driving is expected to grow as fast or faster than the average occupation. Employment is projected to increase 8.5 percent by 2009. The SSCC Commercial Driver Training Program has earned an excellent reputation with both local and long-haul trucking companies.
According to the WOIS the average entry level wage for a commercial truck driver in Washington State is $13.91 per hour. Half of all commercial truck drivers earn between $15.12 & $21.22 per hour. The national median wage is $16.28 per hour.
The certificate training program at SSCC is a twelve-week, 360-clock hour program. Students learn the technical and background knowledge necessary to test for their Washington State Commercial Drivers License written test. During the course, the students will skill test for their Class "A" Washington State Commercial Drivers License. When successfully completed, students will have the practical driving and operational skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate commercial motor vehicles as entry-level drivers.

Program Information
Upon successful completion of the certificate program a student will have earned:
Class "A" Commercial Driver's License
Endorsements for Hazardous Materials, Doubles Trailers, Passenger, Air Brakes and Tankers.
Certificate's Received in Defensive Driver Training and Air Brake Training.
Certificate of Completion and Job Placement Assistance available.

Cost
The 24 credit certificate program has approximately $2,000 of fees in addition to tuition. Please see the current tuition schedule for details.
Enrollment Requirements
- You must have a valid Washington State driver's license.
- You must have a current Department of Transportation Physical Examination.
- Students will be required to pass a DOT Drug Test during the first week of the class. Drug testing is conducted at the college.
- You need to get a copy of your Driver's Abstract (driving record) from the DOL.
- You must be 18 years old to get a CDL in the State of Washington.
