Overview

South Seattle Community College's NewHolly learning center on Beacon Hill is a community resource for southeast Seattle.

This center offers an array of programs and courses for English speaking and non-English speaking adults and youth seeking to improve their literacy and employability skills in order to transition to college or entry-level employment.


Program Options:
ESL
  • ESL Literacy: high-intermediate classes in ESL and Computer Skills; morning and evening classes

  • Placement Test:
    1 ) Students must take an ESL Placement Test before enrolling in any ESL or Family Literacy course.
    2 ) Placement tests are offered once or twice per quarter.
    3 ) After testing, students can join an ESL class at any point during the quarter, space permitting.
    4 ) Call 206-768-6642 to make an appointment for a placement test

  • Registration:
    There is a $25 fee per quarter, per student.
ABE/GED Preparation
  • Open enrollment based on space availability
  • Register in room 205, 9 am-12 noon, Monday through Thursday
  • Morning classes
Worker Retraining
  • Community Corrections and Protective Services training program offered each quarter for 10 weeks.
  • Paid or unpaid internship available.
  • Classes run Monday through Friday from 12:00-6:00 pm.
  • Registration:
    1 ) Must be 21 years old to apply with no felonies on your background check.
    2 ) Assessment of skills necessary for all programs.
