Program Overview

South Seattle College is an affiliate of the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado. SSCC provides classroom instruction for those enrolled in the (self-study) CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER Professional Education Program.

All instructors, specialists in their topics, are CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS and current practitioners.

The 10-week courses compliment the self-study program by providing organization and structure, instructor expertise and class discussion. Students are enrolled in the College for Financial Planning for all their books, materials, and testing AND with South Seattle College for the classroom portion.

Information about the requirements for becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER Professional can be found at the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. web site: www.cfp.net.

Interested candidates should contact South Seattle College first. The Continuing Education staff will enroll them both at South Seattle and at the College for Financial Planning.

CFP® CERTIFICATION PROCESS

The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER Certification Professional Education Program satisfies the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) educational requirement for CFP certification. After successfully completing the College's CFP Certification Professional Education Program, you are eligible to sit for the CFP Certification Examination. The College for Financial Planning does not award the CFP® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification.

The right to use the CFP® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER marks is granted by the CFP Board to those persons who have met its rigorous educational standards, passed the CFP Board Comprehensive CFP Certification Examination, satisfied a work experience requirement, and agreed to abide by the CFP Board's Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility. Only persons registered with the CFP Board are permitted to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination. CFP certificates and licenses are issued only by the CFP Board.

A current copy of the CFP Board's revised “Guide to CFP® Certification” booklet is included with the student material for the first CFP Certification Professional Education course: CFPE1101 Financial Planning Process & Insurance. Bachelor's Degree Requirement

Effective Jan. 1, 2007, the CFP Board will require that applicants, in addition to meeting other existing requirements, must possess an accredited undergraduate degree in order to be considered for CFP® certification. Please contact the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards for further information.

The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and CFP(with flame logo)® in the United States which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Boards initial and ongoing certification requirements.
