The Seattle Colleges District is experiencing a temporary disruption in e-mail and voicemail services. We are working to resolve these issues and thank you for your patience.

Basic & Transitional Studies provides instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and math so students learn English, earn their high school credential, enter employment, and begin college-level studies.

Our programs include:

High School Completion and Adult Basic Education

  • Adult Basic Education, GED Prep and COMPASS Prep

Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED Prep, and COMPASS Prep are for adults, age 16 and older, who want to improve their reading, writing, and math skills and prepare for the GED tests and/or the COMPASS college placement test.

  • Earn Your Diploma with High School 21+

Adults who lack a high school diploma now have a new way to get a second chance. It's called High School 21+, and it allows students to earn high school credit by completing coursework in our Basic and Transitional Studies division. It's less expensive than our traditional Adult High School Completion program, and graduates earn an actual diploma rather than a GED or other certificate.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered to non-native speaking immigrants and refugees at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Classes are offered both day and evening.

We also offer Career Pathway ESL Classes for specific job sectors and Transitional ESL to prepare non-native English speakers for college transfer or technical/vocational courses.

For additional information on the above programs, please contact Basic & Transitional Studies at 206-934-5363 or visit the full Basic & Transitional Studies website.
