1) What does AANAPISI stand for?
It stands for Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution. It recognizes Pacific Islanders as the indigenous group in Pacific Islands, such as (in the U.S. Jurisdictions & Territories) Carolinian, Chamorro, Chuukese, Fijian, Guamanian, Hawaiian, Kosraean, Marshallesse, Native Hawaiian, Niuean, Palauan, Pohnpeian, Samoan, Tokelauan, Tongan, Yapese.

2) What is the AANAPISI Center?
The Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Center (the AANAPISI Center) is a centralized gathering space where all students, particularly Asian American, Pacific Islander, and other underserved students, receive high quality, culturally relevant, student-centered programs and services.

3) What is the purpose of the Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Program?
The AANAPISI program provides discretionary grants to eligible institutions of higher education (IHEs) to enable them to improve their academic quality, increase their self-sufficiency, and strengthen their capacity to make a substantial contribution to the higher education resources of the Nation. At the time of application, IHEs applying for funds under the AANAPISI program must have an enrollment of undergraduate students that is at least 10 percent Asian American or Native American Pacific Islander.

To schedule an advising appointment, come to the AANAPISI Center (LIB 220) or call our front desk at 206-934-5221. To schedule an advising appointment online, go to this website and select "AANAPISI Advising" or "AANAPISI Ed Planning" depending on the length of time you would like.

7) What resources can I find in the AANAPISI Center?
AANAPSISI provides many resources related to South’s campus and the academic community in general. Many of our students have questions about FAFSA, scholarships, transfer, and tutoring. Through the years we have taken into account the needs and requests of our students and have provided resources such as tutoring programs for various subjects as well as FAFSA, transfer, and scholarship handouts and references. Our fantastic advisors are also well trained in these areas of concern.

8) What kind of space does the AANAPISI Center provide?
The AANAPISI Center provides a resting area and individual study space. The center has a microwave, white boards, computers, printers, and supplies for students to use.
