Engaging in Promising Practices

February 6 – 7, 2015 | Seattle, WA

The Asian American Native American and Pacific Islander program (AANAPISI) held a 1.5 day conference on Engaging in Promising Practices here at South Seattle College.  The program featured a half day conference on February 6, 2015 to discuss the institutionalization of AANAPISI programs, and host knowledge community spaces for other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSI) to have cross-campus dialogue.

The full day of workshops occurred on Saturday, February 7th from 8:00 AM – 5 PM. It included "presentations, demonstrations, panels, [and] papers on successful practices supporting AAPI student success." The Showcase highlighted our faculty and staff achievements and campus-wide collaborations, as well as presentations from partnering AANAPISI institutions, and minority-serving institutions in Washington State. The format engaged a learning community of participants in improving the success of AAPI's in higher education.  The workshops will feature practitioner-based themes:

  • Culturally responsive teaching and learning
  • Transformative curriculum and pedagogy
  • Student engagement and development
  • Assessment/measurements of promising practices
  • Cross-campus collaborations and community-based partnerships
