Attending New Student Orientation is mandatory for all international students. Students receive important information about policies regarding their F-1 student visa. Students also learn about services offered at South Seattle College and meet the Center for International Education staff. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet students from other countries and develop friendships that will last a lifetime. Please plan your travel accordingly so that you can attend the orientation.

The following are some of the activities that will take place during Orientation:

  1. Take the English proficiency test (placement test) for placement into our Intensive English Program or college level courses
  2. Receive academic advising and register for classes
  3. Receive South Seattle College student I.D. card
  4. Receive information on public transportation and how to get a bus card.
  5. Learn how to open an American bank account
  6. Learn how to buy and open a mobile phone account
  7. Learn about different housing accommodations
  8. Attend fun activities around Seattle
    • Tour of Seattle downtown
    • Visit various Washington State landmark
    • Volunteer with a local organization
    • Learn of shopping areas close to South Seattle College
  9. Learn about your international student health insurance and receive your insurance card
