English Proficiency

South Seattle Community College

South Seattle College does NOT require TOEFL or IELTS scores for admission. The college offers conditional admission to the academic programs as long as students successfully complete the Intensive English Program (IEP/ESL). However, direct admission to academic programs, without successfully completing our IEP requires the following minimum test scores:

  • TOEFL, Internet Based Test (iBT): 72 with minimum of 18 on all sections
  • IELTS: 6.5 with minimum of 6.0 on all sections

The official TOEFL or IELTS scores must be submitted directly to the South Seattle College the Center for International Education together with the International Student Application form.

Applicants can also demonstrate their English proficiency through our COMPASS English placement test for placement into academic programs. Previous IEP/ESL coursework from another institution will not satisfy the English proficiency requirement for academic programs.
