Endowment Scholarships


Airborne Express Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Airborne Express during the “Building the Best” campaign.  It is awarded to students in any program.

               
Marjorie I. and Michael D. Alhadeff Endowed Scholarship  
This scholarship was established by Marjorie and Michael Alhadeff. Both long-time supporters of South and member of the SSC Foundation Board of Directors. It is awarded to students who plan to transfer to a four year university.


Bank of America Endowed Scholarship
            
This scholarship was established by Bank of America (formerly Seafirst Bank) during the “Building the Best” campaign.  It is awarded to students with financial need.


Rick Barry Endowed Scholarship       
This scholarship was established by former NBA star Rick Barry, with the help of Lars Ryssdal during the “Building the Best” Campaign.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Bayview Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the West Seattle Golf Club in memory of the club members who have passed away.  It is awarded to graduating seniors from Southwest Seattle area high schools.    
 

Norman and Betty Beers Endowed Scholarship        
This scholarship was established by Beverly McCall in memory of her parents Norman, a founding SSC Foundation board member and his wife Betty. It is awarded to students in any program.


William H. Bennett/West Seattle Rotary Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the West Seattle Rotary Club in 1987 in memory of active community member and rotary member, William H. Bennett.  It is awarded to graduating seniors from West Seattle High School.


The Boeing Company Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by The Boeing Company during the “Building the Best” Campaign. It is awarded to students pursuing any of the following programs: Aviation, Business, Office Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Technology Drafting, Auto CAD, CATIA, Engineering Technology, Electronic Technology Maintenance, Machine Shop, and Computer Science.


Jerry M. Brockey Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Jerry M. Brockey, former President of South Seattle Community College.  It is awarded to students in any program.
  
             
Craig and Carol Corcoran Memorial Endowed Scholarship   
This scholarship was established by former Seattle Community Colleges trustee George Corcoran and his wife in memory of their children Craig and Carol Corcoran. It is awarded to a student in any program. This scholarship also provides an additional $500 for school books and supplies purchased at the college bookstore.
               

Earl and Virginia Cruzen Endowed Scholarship            
This scholarship was established by former Foundation Board member, and active community member, Earl Cruzen.  It is awarded to students in the Automotive Program.
          

Glen and Peggy Cullor Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by former Foundation Board member, and long-time scholarship advocate for student scholarships. Before her passing in 2011. Peggy had been chair of the scholarship committee for several years. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.
            

Henry F. Dambacher Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Benita Mooney in honor of Henry F. Dambacher. It is awarded to students in any program.
 

James C. Douglas Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Former Foundation Board member James Douglas. It is awarded to students in any program.


Deloitte and Touche Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1995during the “Building the Best” Campaign.The intention of the scholarship is to helpeliminate economic barriers to learning.  Itis awarded to students in any program.
 

Erma Erickson Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by H. Chris and Erma Erickson. H. Chris and Erma lived through both World Wars and the Great Depression.  They knew the value of hard work, and they had a love of nature. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Landscape Horticulture Program.
               

Food Services of America Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Food Services of America in 1991.  It is awarded to students in the Culinary Arts Program.
           

Florence Galbraith Endowed Scholarship      
This scholarship was established through the Estate of Florence Galbraith.  It is awarded to students in any program.
               

Vern Gambriell Endowed Scholarship           
This scholarship was established by the Estate of Vern Gambriell. Vern was a home builder and active in the Master Builders Association since the 1960’s. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.


Joseph L. Goodwin Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mary Alice Goodwin in 2001 in honor of her father Joseph L. Goodwin.  Awarded to students in the Culinary Arts Program.


Budd Gould and Joey & Vera Ing Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Budd Gould, founder of Anthony’s Restaurants, and Joey, a former SSC Foundation board member and Vera Ing.  It is awarded to students in the Culinary Arts Program or students with an interest in architecture or Engineering.
               

Ed and Eva Gordon Fund for Opportunity Endowed Scholarship      
This scholarship was established by Ed and Eva Gordon. The Gordon’s shared a life-long passion for education and have generously supported scholarships at South Seattle College for a number of years. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.


Group Health Cooperative Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Group Health in 1994 to support the company’s commitment to diversity and education in the state of Washington.  This scholarship is awarded to students with financial need.


William and Margaret Hamilton Endowed Scholarship       
This scholarship was established Margaret Hamilton in 1994.  It is awarded to students in technical or vocational programs.


Charles Hauck Jr. Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the family of Charles Hauck Jr. in his memory. Charles and Anne Hauck were long-time supporters of South Seattle College and worked with the first President of South Seattle College, Robert Smith. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program with a preference for those interested in architecture.


Jerry and Linda Hermanson Endowed Scholarship   
This scholarship was established by Jerry and Linda Hermanson, long-time supporters of South Seattle College.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Gordon E. Hungar Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Julie Hungar in memory of her husband Gordon E. Hungar. This scholarship is awarded to minority students with financial need who are the first in their family to attend college and are in the allied health field.


Kiwanis Club of West Seattle Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Kiwanis Club of West Seattle in 1991.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Philip J. LeDuc Jr. Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Betty LeDuc in memory of her late husband Philip. Philip was a long-time West Seattle resident and supporter of South Seattle College. This scholarship is awarded to students in technical programs.


Serena G. Lee Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by colleagues and the family of Serena G. Lee in her memory. Serena was English as a Second Language faculty in the Basic and Transitional Studies Division at South Seattle College. This scholarship is awarded to students who have completed at least one quarter of ESL, ABE or GED at South and plan to pursue a degree or certificate in college level courses at South.


John E. Lein Manufacturing Endowed Scholarship     
This scholarship was established by the Estate of Alma Lein in memory of her husband John E. Lein who was a research tool and die maker. He also worked for Boeing. This scholarship is awarded to students studying manufacturing technology.

Clarence R. and Janet E. Lellelid Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Estate of Janet Lellelid in 2005.  It is awarded to students in any program.
 

Les Dames d’ Escoffier, Seattle, Culinary Arts Endowed Scholarship
Fund in honor of Co-Founder, Dame Kathleen Stang
This scholarship was established by the Les Dames d’ Escoffier, Seattle, an organization of women leaders in food, beverage and hospitality whose mission is education, advocacy and philanthropy.
This scholarship is awarded to female students who are Washington State residents, enrolled full-time in the Culinary Arts Program, and have completed at least one quarter at South. Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.


Les Dames d’ Escoffier, Seattle Wine Technology – Northwest Wine Academy Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by the Les Dames d’ Escoffier, Seattle, an organization of women leaders in food, beverage and hospitality whose mission is education, advocacy and philanthropy.
This scholarship is awarded to female students who are Washington State residents, enrolled full-time in the Wine Program, and have completed at least one quarter at South. Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
               

Elmer and Joan Lindseth Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Elmer and Joan Lindseth in 1994.  It is awarded to students in vocational or technical programs.
             

Carl M. and Louise C. Lovsted Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Carl Lovsted in honor of his parents who provided love and wonderful guidance for Carl and his sister. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Automotive Program or Nursing Program.


Macy’s Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established during the “Building the Best” Campaign.  It is awarded to students in any program.
               

Helen Jean Malmo Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2002 through the Estate of Helen Jean Malmo. Helen Malmo and her husband were strong supporters of South Seattle Community College and the Foundation for many years. Helen Malmo served on the SSC Foundation Board and she was also supportive of the Landscape Horticulture Program. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.
               

Anna C. Mason Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Nancy Mason in honor of her mother. It is awarded to students in the Culinary Arts Program or the Landscape Horticulture Program.
               

Keith G. and Helen B. Massart Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Keith G. and Helen B. Massart, in 1990.  It is awarded to female students.
               

David and Edgar Mitchell Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by David Mitchell, former South Seattle College President, in honor of his father Edgar.  It is awarded to math students.
               

Mitchelli Family Restaurants Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mitchelli Family Restaurants in 1993.  It is awarded to students in the Culinary Arts Program.
               

Laura Remington Parkins Endowed Scholarship       
This scholarship was established by Dean Parkins in memory of Laura Remington Parkins, a former curriculum coordinator and administrator at South Seattle College. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.

This scholarship is awarded to students who are training to go into the trades.


Michiko Prehn Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the Estate of Michiko Prehn. It is awarded to students in any program.


Robert and Evelyn Reutimann Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Robert and Evelyn Reutimann in 2000.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Bob and Evelyn Reutimann Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Robert and Evelyn Reutimann in 1997.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Willard R. Rhodes Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Adah Rhodes-Cruzen as a tribute to her late husband.  Awarded to students in technical or vocational programs.


Stephen K. Rockwood Endowed Scholarship  
The Stephen K. Rockwood Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of Stephen K. Rockwood.  This scholarship will be awarded to students in the culinary arts program who have a passion for cooking, want to pursue a career in the food services industry, and who express the valued qualities of kindness and integrity.


Safeco Company Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Safeco Corporation in 1995 during the “Building the Best” Campaign.  It is awarded to students studying business.


Seattle Times Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1995 during the “Building the Best” Campaign. It is awarded to minority students with financial need.
 

Services Group of America Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Services Group of America in 1996.  It is awarded to female students.


E.T. “Bob” and Barbara Sleem Endowed Scholarship               
This scholarship was established in 1991 by Bob and Barbara Sleem, both avid community supporters, they saw this scholarship as an investment in the future. This scholarship is awarded to students with ties to West Seattle or a student who is a single parent.

Stephen and Laurie Sparks Endowed Scholarship     
This scholarship was established by Fred and Kathryn Leitz in honor of Stephen and Laurie Sparks. Stephen Sparks was a former chef and instructor in the South Seattle College Culinary Arts Program. He was very influential to the program and to the thousands of students he served during his more than 15 years at South. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Bachelor of Applied Science Hospitality Management Program.


Lois Tice, Art is Life Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Lou and Diane Tice in memory Lou’s mother Lois.  It is awarded to students interested in art.


United Student Association Endowed Scholarship     
This scholarship was established by the United Student Association in 1992.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Jill Wakefield Endowed Scholarship   
This scholarship was established in honor of former President of South Seattle College, Jill Wakefield. Awarded to students in any program.

West Seattle High School Class of 1939 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Earl Cruzen and the alumni of West Seattle High School, class of 1939. It is awarded to students graduating from West Seattle High School.


Corrine and Perry Wing Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the estate of former Foundation board member Corrine Wing.  It is awarded to students in the Culinary Program, Pastry and Baking Arts Program or students studying business.


Wunder Family Endowed Scholarship           
This scholarship was established by Gloria Dresie in honor of her late husband Hal Dresie.  It is awarded to students in the Automotive Program.


Adopt-A-Student Scholarships


All Treatment Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This is an annual scholarship was established by All Treatment, an online resource for help with addiction. All Treatment values those who aspire to help others, especially those who need help with their addictions. It is awarded to students who are pursuing studies related to psychology, human services or nursing. All Treatment is proud to support students at South Seattle.
               

Allison Foundation Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This is an annual scholarship was established by the Allison Foundation.  It is awarded to students in any program.
               

American Institute of Wine and Food (AIWF) Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the AIWF, an educational organization dedicated to promoting health and well-being through the enjoyment of good food and drink. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Wine Program and Culinary Program.


Anderson-Jones Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of a friend and is to support any support any student at South. Supporter has been a friend of South Seattle College and understands many of the hardships students at South face.

Aqua Vista Garden Club Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Aqua Vista Garden Club. While this club is now disbanded it was very active in the West Seattle community showing others the joy of landscaping. It is awarded to students in the Landscape Horticulture program.


Beardsley Foundation Adopt-A-Student Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by the Beardsley Family Foundation.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Beta Sigma Phi Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Beta Sigma Phi, an international women’s social, culture, and service organization. It is awarded to female students.


Biella Foundation Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Biella Foundation, which was founded by Martin Burt.  It is awarded to students of Tibetan decent.


The Blackout Jeep Club Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

The Blackout Jeep Club is a Jeep club with a focus on learning it, building it, driving it! This scholarship was created by the club in 2015 and is open to students in South Seattle College’s Automotive Program.


The Boeing Company Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Boeing Company.  It is awarded to students in any of the following programs: Aviation, Business, Office Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Technology Drafting, Auto CAD, CATIA, Engineering Technology, Electronic Technology Maintenance, Machine Shop, and Computer Science.

Virginia and Aurlo Bonney Memorial Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Allan Bonney in honor of his parents Virginia and Aurlo Bonney. Aurlo Bonney was also a long-time Foundation Board member and supporter of South Seattle College. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Culinary Arts Program, with a grade point average of 2.71.


Chaine des Rotisseurs Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Chaine des Rotisseurs, an international gastronomic society founded in Paris in 1950. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Culinary Arts Program.


Costco Wholesale Co. Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Costco Wholesale Company, wholesale company with a goal of providing its members the best possible prices on quality, brand-name merchandise.


Sara Coon Memorial Adopt-A-Student Scholarship   

This scholarship was established by Marie Coon, former Director of Career Link at South Seattle College, in memory of her daughter Sara. This scholarship is awarded to students in the South Seattle College Career Link Program who are continuing their education at South.


Susan Cullor Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Susan Cullor, a long-time supporter of the South Seattle College Foundation.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Endolyne Garden Club Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Endolyne Garden Club, whose mission is to provide a friendly setting for gardeners where they may share their interest and further their knowledge.  This scholarship is awarded to students in the Landscape Horticulture Program.


Robert Frey Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Robert Frey, business owner and community supporter in West Seattle. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.


Hailey Gray Memorial Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Paul Hecker in memory of his granddaughter Hailey Gray.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Judy Gray Adopt-A-Student Scholarship        

This scholarship was established by Judy Gray, former instructor at South Seattle College, and current Foundation Board member.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Leona Hickman Educational Trust Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

The Leona Hickman Educational Trust has been assisting students since 1937-year of establishment. Students residing in King County on any educational track are encouraged to apply.


Hill Family Foundation Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Hill Family Foundation and Harold and Mary Frances Hill, long-time South Seattle College supporters.  Awarded to students in any program.


Holland America Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Holland America, which has been in business for more than 138 years. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Bachelor of Applied Science – Hospitality Management Program.


Hospitality Financial and Technical Professionals Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Hospitality Financial and Technical Professionals group. HFTP is the international professional association serving members working in hospitality. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Bachelor of Applied Science Hospitality Management Program.


Tom and Lori Huling Adopt-A-Student Scholarship    

This scholarship was established by Tom and Lori Huling.  Long-time West Seattle residents and business owners. Tom is a member of the South Seattle Community College Foundation Board. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.


Ernie Pino Memorial Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
Ernesto “Ernie” Pino was a well-loved fixture of the Seattle food and entertainment scene for years: a celebrated chef, food writer and media personality who eagerly shared his knowledge of Spanish and Latin American cuisine to many food professionals. As a columnist for Seattle Magazine, the host of culinary events all over the city and a regular guest on the radio, Ernie was an invaluable supporter of the local food scene – promoting up-and-coming chefs and new restaurants with enthusiasm. He wore many hats – voice-over actor, children’s book author, Spanish language translator – but his passion was food. He believed in the Seattle restaurant community and its potential. This scholarship in his name is meant to continue his mission – to support the next generation of Seattle’s most talented chefs.


Fayette Krause Adopt-A-Student
This scholarship was established in 2013 by Fayette Krause. It is awarded to a minority student in any program.


Kim Krasne Adopt-A-Student in Memory of Sally Brotman
This scholarship was established by Kim Krasne, in memory of her mother, Sally Brotman. It is awarded to students in any program.


Reverend B. McKinney Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established though the Seattle Colleges in honor of Reverend B. McKinney of the Mount Zion Church. This scholarship is awarded to African American students in good academic standing who have at least three quarters of study remaining at South Seattle College, and demonstrate financial need, and are not currently receiving a scholarship.


Andy Nelson Adopt-A-Student Scholarship      
This scholarship was established by longtime West Seattle resident Doris Nelson, and since she has passed away, it has been carried on by her husband Andy. It is awarded to students in any program.


Sharing Foundation Adopt-A-Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2013 by Don Rottler through the Sharing Foundation. It is awarded to students in the Culinary Arts program, with a preference for 4th or 5th quarter students.


SkyCity at the Needle Culinary Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

SkyCity at the Needle and South alum Chef Jeff Maxfield are proud to support current culinary students who are learning the craft. This scholarship is awarded to students currently enrolled in the Culinary Arts program.


Warren & Nancy Smith Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Warren Smith in 2012. Preference is given to students studying math or science.


Nucor Steel Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Nucor Steel, Seattle. Nucor is the largest producer of steel in the United States, and one of the largest recyclers of any kind. This scholarship is awarded to students in Diesel, Pre-engineering or Welding Programs.

Erika Sweet Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
Erika Sweet is a former employee of South. While at South, she worked closely with students as the Annual Giving Manager and overseeing the Foundation scholarship awards. This had a big impact on her and now she is excited to give back with her annual Adopt-A-Student Scholarship.


Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance (PNAA) Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance in 2008.  It is awarded to students in the Aviation Program.


Parkside Garden Club Adopt-A-Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Parkside Garden Club of West Seattle. The club encourages interest in home gardening and promotes better horticultural practices. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Landscape Horticulture Program.


Eliert and Virginia Prestegaard Adopt-A-Student Scholarship          

This scholarship was established by longtime supporters of South Seattle College, Eilert and Virginia Prestegaard.  This scholarship is awarded to student in any program.


Beverly Rowe Adopt-A-Student Scholarship   

This scholarship was established by longtime West Seattle resident and supporter of South Seattle College, Beverly Rowe.  It is awarded to students in any program.


Sophia’s Family Adopt-A-Student Scholarship           

This scholarship was established by Barbara and Larry Lither in memory of mother Sophia Kovalcik.  It is awarded to students who have been in the United States Foster Care System.


South Seattle College Adopt-A-Student Scholarship   

This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.


Captain John Spence Memorial Adopt-A-Student Scholarship          

This scholarship was established by Patty Spence in memory of her husband Captain John Spence. This scholarship is awarded to students in any program.


West Seattle Art Club Adopt-A-Student Scholarship  

This scholarship was established by the West Seattle Art Club which has been in existence for more than 100 years. This scholarship is awarded to students interested in art.


West Seattle Garden Club Adopt-A-Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the West Seattle Garden Club which was founded in 1929. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Landscape Horticulture Program.
