Why “Gifts from the Earth?” – Saturday, January 28, 2012
The proceeds from “Gifts from the Earth” benefit students and programs at South in the areas of scholarships, program equipment, and tutoring. By becoming a sponsor of “Gifts from the Earth” you will help us support students like Pastry and Baking Arts student Marijean Brown. From a young age Marijean had the dream of becoming a pastry chef. Marijean’s family has always been supportive of her dreams and goals, however, due to the financial commitment and many other challenges the family has faced, the cost of college tuition has become a financial burden. Marijean applied for and received a three- quarter scholarship from the South Seattle Community College Foundation, and since then she has been able to continue her studies in the Pastry Program and stay on the path of success! Marijean’s story is just one of hundreds of students that we help each year through scholarships and other valuable resources.
