Work Study

The Work Study Program provides employment opportunities to students who have financial need. It is the self-help part of your financial aid award package where you can work part-time and earn money to help pay for your college expenses.

South offers on-campus and off-campus work study job opportunities. Due to limited funds, work study awards may be cancelled if a job is not secured and students are not earning work study funds. Work study placement is not guaranteed.    

Eligibility

In addition to earning money to help pay for your college expenses, a work study position gives you the opportunity to explore different career interests, gain practical experience in your field of study and possibly open the door for future permanent employment. Work study positions are opportunities for developing important job skills via experience, mentorship, and development.

Studies have shown that students who work part-time actually do better in school than students who do not work. You have the option to accept or reject your work study award. Declining work study has no negative impact on your financial aid eligibility. However, work study cannot be replaced by grant money.

Steps to Use Your Work Study

The steps to use your Work Study will be detailed during the orientation, this is just a general overview:

  1. Read through the jobs listed below. These jobs change so check back often.
  2. Find a job (or jobs) that suit you and follow the instructions for each job to apply.
  3. Attend the interview(s)
  4. Complete the New Hire Paper Work.

Summer Hours: 
Monday through Thursday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Drop-in hours:
Monday through Thursday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (virtual services only)

** The week before the quarter and the first week of each quarter financial aid coaches offer drop-in services from Monday through Thursday  10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday.
