Upward Bound is one of more than 700 TRiO programs nationwide that are funded by the U.S. Department of Education to promote academic achievement among disadvantaged populations. TRiO programs help students overcome class, social & cultural barriers to higher education. In addition to Upward Bound, at South we have two other highly successful TRiO programs ~ TRiO Talent Search and Student Success Services.
The focus of Upward Bound is to help low-income / first generation college students to prepare for and complete college. The South Seattle Community College Upward Bound program, initially funded in 1996, serves students in Evergreen and Tyee High Schools.
