Running Start COMPASS Testing
The COMPASS® (college placement test):
- Required of all students who have not completed college level math or English composition
- Assesses students' skills in Reading, Writing Skills, Math, or English as a Second Language
- Determines placement of students in appropriate courses
Exceptions: If a student has successfully completed a college-level English composition or mathematics course, the COMPASS is not required.
Prior to taking COMPASS:
- Attend a free COMPASS test Prep workshop on Wednesday or Thursday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
- review practice versions of COMPASS: http://www.southseattle.edu/sas/placement.htm#preparing
- check Assessment Office testing calendar: www.southseattle.edu/sas/contact.htm
- obtain Student Identification Number (SID) from Registration staff (bring valid identification and be able to provide your Social Security Number)
- pay testing fee ($18.00) at Cashier
- bring receipt along with a valid, state-issued photo identification to test session
- schedule an advising appointment with a Running Start advisor
- Attend a free COMPASS test Prep workshop on Wednesday or Thursday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Note: Colleges and universities recommend taking mathematics courses throughout high school or continuing to take mathematics at a college.
