Welcome back.

Over the summer, we completed several I.T. projects, which include—RAH & childcare center rewiring, switch upgrades, employee computer upgrade/replacement, as well as software and server upgrades.  We are progressing with a campus-wide Wi-Fi upgrade project.

How to contact the ITS team

The best way to contact ITS for help is via the Help Desk email.  Your emails go directly to our work order database.  The Help Desk email can be reached at: sscchelp@seattlecolleges.edu or SSCC Help from our address book.   We can also be reached by phone at (206) 934-5844. Note: Phone calls have to be added to our work order database manually, which will take longer to respond to.

We experience a large volume of calls at the beginning of each quarter; therefore, we ask that the phone be used only by those of you who cannot access your computer (or email).  Should the phone not be staffed when you call, please leave a message with your name, location, phone # and a description of the problem.  Someone from the team will get back to you as soon as we can.

Keep in mind that the more information you can provide in your request, the faster we’ll be able to help resolve your issue.  Please include information such as room number, a description of the problem you are encountering, and when you will be available to resolve the issue.

How long does your request generally take?

Once a trouble ticket is created, you will get an automated email from us.  We usually work our tickets on a First-In / First-Out basis.  The sanctioned exceptions are for areas where the student experience is involved or when a large number of people are affected.

Depending on the work in our queue and the nature of the problem, your request may take a few minutes to an hour for those with direct student contact.  Because we must balance our First-In / First-Out with priority service calls, the response times for other requests will be longer.

To order a computer, a lot of paperwork and coordination involved.  It can take a couple of weeks for an order to be placed and received on campus.  We then need to schedule the install with our work order database.  New computer installs often have a lower priority.

What’s happening ?

  • Windows 7 will be rolled out to the remainder of computer classrooms/labs.
  • Office 2010 will be rolled out to all of the computer classrooms/labs.
  • Adobe CS5 will be installed in OLY 102 & open library common labs.
  • Staff and faculty computer upgrade plan, including Windows 7 and Office 2010. ITS will communicate the plan with everyone.
  • ITS implemented a more secure way to transfer new passwords to users. We eliminated passing this information over the phone.  In implementing this shift in practice, ITS continues to ask for the help of department heads, deans, VPs, or one designated person in the department to request that expired or forgotten passwords for staff or faculty be reset.

Things to remember

You can still reset your own email password by using this link: https://apps.seattlecolleges.edu/AdTool/. Once you click on the "Reset My Email Passphrase" link, you will need to enter your email alias, SID, & PIN.  Note: This password is case sensitive and is valid for 180 days.

Please do not:

  • Log on to a computer with your account for someone;
  • Keep in mind that we do not ask for your network or email login information, and notifications that the district sends will come from a .EDU domain, i.e.: seattlecolleges.edu or SeattleColleges.edu

Please remember to log off after using a classroom computer. When you login with your account in a classroom, you are connected to your “My Documents” folder, so-called the H: drive, and your departmental folders.

Student’s print credit limit is 375 pages per quarter. Students can check their printing balance via this page http://printing.southseattle.edu:9191/. If students run out of print credits before the quarter ends, they can buy more credits at the cashier office. Student’s print balance is reset every quarter.
